Founder’s Letter

Hey friends,

Every time I step off the ferry onto Martha’s Vineyard, I feel like I’m home… even though I don’t technically live here. My wife and I visit 4-6 times a year, our kids know it as “Mimi’s house,” and honestly, they’d rather be here than anywhere else. If not for the land bank fee (and the ever-climbing prices), we’d probably have a place of our own already.

Still, we love the island. We love the businesses. And we love the people who keep this place alive year-round and during the summer rush.

But for many visitors, it’s not always easy to find and support BIPOC- and LGBTQ-owned businesses or creators on the Vineyard. That’s why I started MV Black Business.

Why This Exists
Too often, “supporting local” gets wrapped in paywalls, membership fees, or some big organization that charges for access. That’s not what we’re about.

This is free. Always will be free.

You simply submit your business or influencer info, and we’ll list it. That’s it. No payment. No registration fees. No hoops.

We’ll then showcase you across our apps, on social media, and in the community. Because the truth is, I’m already spending money at your businesses. (I’d never give up my sausage egg and cheese bagels at Winstons, or a Beach Please from TigerHawk. Seriously… those are non-negotiables.)

What You Get
Visibility. Your business or brand will be discoverable to visitors looking specifically to support BIPOC and LGBTQ+ businesses.

Partnerships. This is about connecting the dots between businesses and influencers who already know each other.

Data. Over time, we’ll add logins, dashboards, and insights so you can see how people engage with your listing.

Future perks. We’re working toward a collective loyalty card within the app. Think rewards for supporting each other.

Events. Long-term vision? An annual off-season gathering on the island, where we bring in speakers and use tech to level up. And yes, it’ll be free.

What This Isn’t
This isn’t about me. I’m just a frequent visitor who loves this island and wants to make it easier for others to support you.

It’s not about replacing anything, either. If you’re looking for a comprehensive list of all businesses and events on Martha’s Vineyard, not just BIPOC- and LGBTQ+-owned, head over to MVacay.com (that’s my wife’s blog, and it’s incredible).

This is built for the frequent visitor, the random traveler, better yet… just everyone.

Let’s make this a win for you, your business, and your community.

Warmly,
Court
